Greenhaw Primary School

The outdoor classroom

10th Apr 2019

With Spring in the air the P1's took to the outdoors to explore the school environment. They went to the pond and were delighted to discover frogspawn and some tadpoles. At the front of the school they explored the gardening plots were they found the daffodil bulbs that they had  planted in Autumn had well and truly grown into beautiful flowers. We were able to uproot one to see the roots and learn how the flowers are able to suck up the water needed to make them grow. The children loved rubbing the mint leaves with their finger to smell " toothpaste, ice cream and polo mints" but were not so keen on the smell of the sprouting spring onions! Some of the eco members helped water the flowers and plant some flower seeds in the window boxes. Back in class the P1's planted their very own sunflowers which we will transplant to the front of the school when they are too big for the pots.
