Greenhaw Primary School

Welcome back!

3rd Sep 2019

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child/children back to school and hope that you’ve had a relaxing and enjoyable summer break.

Welcome also, to any child who has joined our school for the first time. We hope that your time at Greenhaw Primary and Nursery School is enjoyable, rewarding and filled with lasting memories.

As you are aware, the settling in process for our P.1 children is an important factor in ensuring that the transition from Nursery is a seamless and positive experience for every child.

To accommodate the needs of every child and to ensure that the P.1 teachers get to know your child on a one to one basis, we operate a ‘phasing in’ approach. We try our best to ensure that this does not extend beyond what we feel is an appropriate settling in period.

Please find below a list of settling in times for P.1:

Week one Monday 2nd Sept – Fri 6th September 2019

P.1 Children will leave at 12noon and will not attend the canteen

Week 2 Monday 9th – Fri 13th September 2019

P.1 Children will leave at 1.15pm and will attend canteen

Week 3 onwards Monday 16th September – 30th June 2020

P.1 Children will leave at 2.15pm and will attend canteen

***Please note, our early years after school club for P.1 and P.2 children will begin on Monday 16th September 2019. It will operate from 2.15pm – 3.00pm at a cost of £1.00 per day or £5 for the week.

All other after school clubs for P.3 – P.7 will also resume on Monday 16th September 2019 and will operate from 3.00pm – 4.00pm.

COMING TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING

I would like to remind you of the following in the interests of the safety and protection of all the children in our school:

With the exception of Nursery children, ALL CHILDREN MUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE ASSEMBLY HALL where there will be 3 members of staff there to supervise the pupils.

  • Primary 1-3 children going into the Assembly Hall should enter through the door next to the Mrs Cunningham/Ms Heaney’s classrooms.
  • Primary 4-7 children going into the Assembly Hall should enter through the side door next to the library.

We ask that you do not use the main entrance at the secretary’s office to leave your child/children to school.

  • After dropping your child/children off, Parents are asked to leave via the same door they entered.
  • The teachers and teaching assistants will be on supervision duty from 8.45 am.
  • At 9.00am the children will be escorted by their own class teacher to their classrooms.

If you have children in a range of classes from P.1-7, we ask that you let the older child/children in P.4-7 make their own way to the assembly hall via the side door beside the library while you escort the younger child/children to the Assembly Hall via Mrs Cunningham’s/Ms Heaney’s classrooms.

Any child arriving at school after classes begin at 9.10am, must enter the school through the main door at Secretary’s office where they will sign in.

Collection Times

With the exception of our Nursery children, we would ask all parents of P.1-P.7 to wait in the senior playground until your child has been brought to you.

Nursery   1.15pm

P.1, P.2   2.15pm

P.3 – P.7 3.00pm

* In the interests of child safety please do not use the school carpark for dropping off/picking up.*

If there is a situation where you need to contact your child, your child’s class teacher or any other member of staff in the school, you must contact the school secretary in advance- TEL: 02871 351908.

Please also note that Breakfast Club will operate from 8.10am. The club is open to pupils from Nursery – P.7 and will finish promptly at 8.45am for all pupils.

I ask that you do not linger in the hall with your child/children as there will be supervision at all times.

School to Parent Communication (Important)

Please ensure that you have downloaded the Greenhaw Primary School App where you will be able to access important dates, events and other forms of communication throughout the school year. You can do this by accessing the school’s website at greenhawps.co.uk and clicking on the Schools NI app at the top of the page and follow the download instructions.

I hope you find this information useful and I look forward to working with you to achieve the best possible opportunities for your child/children in the year ahead.

Mr S. McLaughlin

Principal.
