Learning how to sort and name the names of 3D shapes: cube, cuboid, cone, sphere and cyclinder

 

 

 

Recognising and naming 3Dshapes at home.

What shape is your cereal box? What shape is a can of beans? etc

Play I spy. I can see a cuboid, can you guess what it is?

Go on a shape hunt in different rooms, and discuss what you find.

 Use correct shapes names like a cube is not a square, but is made from six square faces.

Find a 3D shape to bring in for class shape table.

Measurement

To use non-standard units to measure length.

To know that whatever they are measuring with must remain the same. (clothes pegs - must be identical in size)

Measure their toys, family members, furniture.

Talk about people at work who need to be able to measure length accurately. Painters, tillers, carpenters, builders. Etc

Discuss how you would measure your livingroom if you  needed new flooring. (carpet/wooden floors)

Language- length, straight line, consistent size. longer/shorter, same as.

To be able to subtract a smaller number from a larger number.

To know that the number at the end will be less than the starting number.

 

Subtract, Take away, Minus, Count back, Smaller, Less, Equals
