This class page will keep you updated about our learning in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy.

Numeracy

Numeracy -  September/October

Number

  • Counting through rhymes, songs and poems. 
  • Counting orally to 10
  • Number recognition to 4
  • Making sets to 4
  • Number formation activities

Shape & Space

  • Recognise 2D shapes - circle, square & triangle
  • Explore and talk about shapes in our environment

Measures

  • Use everyday language associated with length, weight & capacity
  • Become familiar with the routines of the school day/week.

Handling Data

  •      Sort a variety of materials for two criteria e.g. colour, shape. 

The children will also take part in Maths Week 2024. 

 

 

Literacy

Literacy - September/October

Talking & Listening

  • Listen to and follow classroom instructions
  • Become familiar with class routines
  • Circle Time e.g. sharing news, PATHS lessons. 

Reading & Comprehension

  • Listen to and respond to shared stories
  • Join in with familiar rhymes, stories and songs.
  • Understand the term 'syllable' and hear and clap syllables in names, topic words etc.

Phonics

  • Introduction to the Sounds Write phonic programme
  • Understand that sounds are represented by symbols
  • Recognise initial sounds s,a,t,i,m and find words that begin with these sounds.
  • Develop an awareness of sound - symbol correspondence

Writing

  • Begin to develop correct pencil grip
  • Demonstrate increasing pencil control through tracing activities
  • Practice using scissors with increased control
  • Develop correct letter formation for sounds s,a,t,i,m
  • Understand that writing is a form of communication
  • Give lots of opportunities through play based learning to write and practice mark making
