Numeracy

Mental Maths:

  • Count forwards and backwards in 1s, 10s and 100s
  • Place value of numbers to 10000.
  • Read and write in words numbers to 10000
  • Order numbers to 10000
  • List the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

Number:

  • Addition of 4 digit numbers
  • Subtraction of 4 digit numbers
  • Language associated with addition and subtraction word problems
  • Times Tables to include 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x and 10x tables
  • Recognising fractions to include halves, quarters, thirds, fifths and the terms numerator and denominator.
  • Rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.

Measures:

  • Measuring length to the nearest half centimetre
  • Measuring metres.
  • Time in 5 minute intervals

Children will also participate in mathletics and should aim to earn 1000 points per week.

Literacy

Reading:

  • Accelerated reading in class and at home.
  • Completion of accelerated reading tests.
  • Daily Reading from our school reading scheme
  • Daily reading of our class novel ‘The BFG’
  • Weekly comprehensions in class.

Grammar:

  • Using capital letters in names, days, months, titles, places and the letter I.
  • Full stops.
  • Alphabetical Order to the second and third letter.
  • How to use a dictionary and a thesaurus.
  • Using adjectives and extending this to comparative and superlative.
  • Powerful verbs.
  • Synonyms
  •  

Writing:

  • Recount of summer holidays
  • Narrative writing…identifying features and using the ‘six steps’ method to write our own narrative story.
  • Free writing activities. In these activities children will write about their own experiences.
  • Weekly handwriting sessions.

Phonics:

  • Children will learn to spell words with ‘ee’, ay, ai and a-e sounds.
