Numeracy

Mental Maths:

  • Consolidation of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x and 10 tables
  • Learn 7x, 8x, 9x, 11x and 12x tables
  • Multiply by 10 and 100
  • List the properties of 3D shapes.
  • Understand the link between multiplication and division.
  • Recognise right angles in our environment
  • Be able to make quarter, half and full turns.

Number:

  • Rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.
  • Recognise coins and banknotes and use the correct notation for money.
  • Calculate simple addition, subtraction and multiplication money problems

Measures:

  • Time in 5 minute intervals
  • Recognition of time on an analogue and digital clock.
  • Calculate simple time problems

Handling Data:

  • Venn diagrams
  • Carroll diagrams

Space

  • Explore co-ordinates in the first quadrant.

TSPC:

  • Isak 9

Children will also participate in mathletics and should aim to earn 1000 points per week

Literacy

Reading:

  • Accelerated reading in class and at home.
  • Completion of accelerated reading tests.
  • Daily Reading from our school reading scheme
  • Daily reading of our class novel ‘The BFG’
  • Weekly comprehensions in class.

Grammar:

  • Understand the difference between fact and opinion.
  • Use connectives appropriately in the writing.
  • Use an apostrophe for contractions.
  • Use speech bubbles.
  • Use commas and speech marks in their own writing.
  • Proof read work to check for grammatical accuracy.

Writing:

  • Narrative writing…Continue to identify features and using the ‘six steps’ method to write our own narrative stories.
  • To know the features of comic strips and use these to write their own comic strip based on the moon landing.
  • Free writing activities. In these activities children will write about their own experiences.
  • Weekly handwriting sessions.

Phonics:

  • Children will learn to spell words with ‘oe/ow’, ‘er’, ‘e’, ‘ow’, ‘oo’ sounds.
