Winter has arrived! ☃️
This month in nursery, our theme is Winter time, including the exploration of arctic environments and the importance of looking after our birds, (we are very eco-friendly in the nursery)! This week we decided to make our own bird feeders using pipe cleaners and cheerios, and we hung them outside on the trees for the birds. We have also been feeding them tiny pieces of bread and seeds.
Today, there was such excitement as the children watched the first snowfall of the year. Not to miss out on an exciting learning opportunity, we wrapped up warm and went outside to explore the ice and snow! The children decided that they would use spades and sticks to brake the ice, and we talked about how the polar bears break the ice to hunt for seals. We then buried some arctic animals underneath the water (once it had melted), in the hope that tomorrow when we return to school, the animals will be frozen over. The children are so excited to rescue the animals!- A great and natural way of exploring freezing and melting through our cold weather snap!
We also made our own snow inside, and the children came up with wonderful ideas of what to add to it-it was transformed (by them) into a magical winter wonderland! They used adjectives such as "soft," "smooth," "fluffy", and "cold" to describe how the snow felt! What a magical day, have a look at the children engrossed in their winter play today (and the great enjoyment shown) ☃️😃
